Vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart werden alle Bereiche des öffentlichen, wissenschaftlichen, wirtschaftlichen und kulturellen Lebens berücksichtigt.

Histat serves as access-platform of time series data collected in the framework of economic and social historical research.All together, all in the database Histat contained time series enclose about five and a half million values. From the year 1800 at least thousand values for nearly each year are available, from the middle of the 19th century there are already more than 10.000 values on hand via Histat, and with the foundation of the German Empire (in 1871) there are more than 20.000 values available per year. The highlights are the years at the beginning of the 20th Century: for several years there are about 60.000 values available via histat.

Im Rahmen der digitalen Monumenta Gremaniae Historica (dMGH) wurden in einem von der DFG geförderten Gemeinschaftsprojekt zwischen den MGH und der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek, München, sämtliche Editionsbände der MGH digitalisiert und Open Access zur Verfügung gestellt. Neue Bände werden nach einer Schutzfrist von drei Jahren in die dMGH aufgenommen („moving wall“). Bis Ende 2010 war die Volltexterfassung der älteren Bände abgeschlossen. The library currently offers about 11,000 monographs and conference proceeedings. It holds subscriptions for over 200 journals, an electronic catalogue and a list of Electronic journals and databases.

Die Bibliothek sammelt Literatur in den Bereichen Mathematik, Physik, Materialwissenschaft, Chemie, Biologie und Kognitionswissenschaft. Der Bestand umfasst überwiegend Monografien, Proceedingsbände werden nur bei besonderer Bedeutung der Konferenz erworben.

The Library and Information Service (BIS) is the joint library for the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and five institutes of the Center for Earth System Science and Sustainability. The cooperation with some university institutes regarding the library exists since the foundation of the MPI-M in 1975.

The MPI-CBG library provides comprehensive literature and informations services to all MPI-CBG members and guests.

The special library maintained by the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology contains approximately 15,000 books and series of volumes and 25,900 bound journals covering the fields of biochemistry, organic chemistry, molecular and cell biology, protein chemistry and structural biology.

The MPI-MP opened its reference library in 1995. The library houses over 2000 books and 120 prominent molecular biology-related journals.

The Otto Hahn Library is a special scientific library which provides the institutes on the Max Planck Campus at Göttingen-Nikolausberg with literature and information. Its holdings primarily consist of literature covering the fields of research of the institutes Multidisciplinary Sciences and Dynamics & Self-Organization.

With a multi-lingual collection gathered from throughout the world, the library is a “Central Legal Library”, and possesses a comprehensive collection covering international commercial law, international private law and foreign civil law.

The Library of the Max-Planck-Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity is a specialized library with a focus on religious studies, anthropology, political science and sociology. The library does not participate in interlibrary loans but serves as a reference library to provide literature and information, mainly to the members of the Institute.
